Glow Events are proud to be working alongside Barnabus to put on a sponsored sleep out event. Our main aim is to raise awareness and funds for Barnabus so that they can support rough sleepers and people experiencing homelessness back into a home.

Barnabus is a Christian Homeless Charity, providing a lifeline to the homeless in Manchester for over 25 years. 

 

Homelessness in our city is sadly an all too visible problem. Barnabus offer help with accommodation, rehabilitation, practical support, healthcare, skills training and links to employment opportunities.

 

They also offer a range of creative activities and volunteering opportunities including peer mentoring to build confidence, skills and wellbeing. 

On the 28th March 2020, GLOW Events are hosting an event. Guests will take part in a sleepout to raise awareness and a shared understanding of some of the conditions encountered by rough sleepers in our City.

 

There are hundreds of people sleeping rough in Manchester who are in need of desperate help. 

 

All funds raised at the event will go Barnabus, a homeless charity who tackle homelessness on a daily basis.

What is sleep-out?

A sleep out is a fundraising challenge that takes place out doors over night, without a tent or any shelter. The main aim is to raise money and awareness surrounding the issues of homelessness. It will give you a small insight into what it may feel like to sleep on the streets.

Where is the money raised going?

All money raised at the event will go straight to Barnabus, a charity who helps the homeless. Charity No 1174410. If you would like to learn more about Barnabus, please visit their website https://www.barnabus-manchester.org.uk/
 

How can I take part?

Click the "ticket" tab at the top to buy a ticket. If you would like to take part in the sleep out please make sure you buy the sleep out ticket.
 

When is GLOW UP THE NIGHT?

The event will take place on the Saturday 28th March 2020 at 7:30pm.

Are there any age restrictions?

The minimum participant age is 11 years of age. Under 17s must be accompanied by an adult.

What equipment will I need to bring?

It may be a very cold or wet night,  please bring a sleeping bag, blanket, camping mat or cardboard and a survival bag.  Warm and waterproof clothes (hats, scarf, gloves, jacket, waterproofs etc). You may also like to bring a bag, torch, flask, rubbish bag. We will provide some cardboard and survival bags will be available to purchase at a cost of £3 each. Please bring plastic or cash for the charity raffle/auction. You may also bring sponsorship cash this will be received from a Barnabus member of staff with a receipt given.

 

What can I not bring?

A stove or fire of any kind.  Alcohol - anyone under the influence of alcohol will not be able to take part. Tents or canopies. Footballs or other ball games. Music, except for personal devices with a headphone. Anyone who hasn't registered. Unnecessary valuables - there won't be a place to store these securely.
 

Do I need to register and pay to take part?

Yes. ALL participants must have entered and paid the £10 registration fee PRIOR to the event, they will also need to raise a minimum £50 in sponsorship.

What if there is bad weather?

We will monitor the weather a few days before the event. If worse comes to worse, there is an indoor space that can be used, therefore the event will go ahead regardless of the weather.
 

Can I leave early? When will the event end?

Yes. You can leave early, although we would love for you to be able to stay until the end. Breakfast Bap, wake up and clear up will be from 6am onwards and everyone will be awarded with a certificate.  

 

Can I bring alcohol?

No. For safety and security reasons, alcohol will not be permitted. Anyone who arrives under the influence of alcohol will not be able to take part. We reserve the right to check bags on entry to ensure safety at the event.

Will there be any refreshments provided?

We will provide hot and cold drinks and snacks these will be available throughout the night, and a simple breakfast in the morning. You are welcome to bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic drinks if you prefer.

Who will be taking part in the sleepout?

Like minded participants who want to raise funds and awareness to support rough sleepers and people experiencing homelessness in our City. Barnabus staff, volunteers and Glow Event Stewards will be on hand during the night to assist sleepers, answer any questions you may have and talk to you about the work that Barnabus does.  First Aiders and Security staff will also be in attendance for your safety.
